Bird drive: Enjoy a drive in Pilanesberg with a highly trained and specialist guide devoting all of your time to the feathered inhabitants of the Bush
Pilanesberg boasts a bird count in excess of 280 species. Due to the varied terrain of Pilanesberg and the fact that it lies in the transition zone of two different vegetation types the chance of seeing birds of different areas is great and rewarding. Bird drives are tailor made to suit everyone, from someone starting out to experience the great joy of Birding to the experienced “Twitcher” looking for that ever elusive “Lifer Tick” to add to their list.

As well as understanding the integral interdependency that exists between fauna and flora we will also show you how plants can, and still to this day do, serve as a cure all for various daily Human ailments.
Astronomy and mythology drives: The beauty of stars in the African Bush is rivaled only by their number and clarity. When did you last take the time to stop and look up at the night sky and contemplate humanity? Join us on a drive to explore the realm of distant planets and constellations, and the folklore responsible for their everyday notoriety.
Wildlife management in a modern African National Park: A behind the scenes look at the day to day running and obstacles that face a National Park in an ever Developing World. Get to understand the fundamentals of wildlife management, and how even the most insignificant man induced changes can have catastrophic environmental effects in the long run.
Frog identification (in summer only): Having a truly African experience is not only about the sights but also about the sounds. The African bush comes alive at night and the distinctive calls of Amphibians complete the nocturnal symphony. The Pilanesberg is home to 18 species of frogs and toads, and due to the ability to recognize individual species from their calls your guide will be able to point out the diminutive Common Caco (the size of a Human Thumb Nail) to the dinner plate sized Giant Bullfrog. Not only will your drive be enjoyable but you will be contributing to the continued research and distribution census of these amazing creatures.
Family safari:
There can be little quite as special as sharing an African safari with your children. It is in our experience that we also need to adjust the style with which we conduct a safari to appeal to children. We are also obliged to make certain that we do all we can not to disrupt our other guests.
Although our rules and regulations are as follows;
- Children up to the age of 6 are not permitted on regular safaris.
- Children between the ages of 6 and 12 are permitted on regular safaris the sole discretion of the ranger.
In the event that children are denied a regular safari and subject to availability we will offer a kiddies bush bumble, this is a shortened safari concentrating on the little things in the bush and avoiding deliberate encounters with the big 5.
