The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a beautiful slender animal with a speed like none other. Cheetahs are able to go from standing still to 90km/hour in 3 seconds this is faster than any car. Their small bullet shaped head, long legs and oval shaped tail all help them to reach these top speeds and turn corners to catch their prey.

In the pilanesberg we only have six cheetahs, two males, one female (Rain) and her three cubs. We have been fortunate enough to see the process of the cubs growing up. They have grown in size, stealth and hunting capability. These beautiful creatures are not often seen as they have a large area to roam and many competitors such as lions and leopards to hide from. When they do come out for our guests to see they normally show off their elegant stature for all to see.
